80 Inch TV Dimensions: The Best Viewing for A Large TV

I started researching about 80-inch TV dimensions when I got interested in buying a new tv set. Not that I didn’t know the width of an 80-inch TV, but I was more interested in knowing the best angle and position for the TV.

The actual size of 80 inch TV is 39.1-inches in height and 69.6-inches in width. With such a large TV, the 80-inch dimensions can easily dominate your TV room, which isn’t bad. After all, to have a more immersive experience, you have to sit close to your TV.

During my research, I discovered several factors that determine how far your TV should be and the best viewing angle. These are the screen size, height-width, and viewing area. You will notice that I haven’t touched on the resolution, mainly because most TVs nowadays are of 4K quality.

80-Inch TV Dimensions the Screen-Size

Calculating the screen size of your TV isn’t that hard. In fact, it’s pretty easy when you know what to do. First, most TV measurements are in inches, measured from the top right corner of the TV to the bottom left corner.

For example, an 80-inch TV is 80 inches from the bottom left to the top right of the screen or the bottom right to the top left of the screen.

However, the 80-inch screen size dimensions are different when considering the TV frame. The actual measurement of an 80-inch TV is 39.1 by 69.6 inches which is pretty decent. However, most ultraslim TVs maximize the screen and reduce the frame. Thus, the size may be slightly bigger.

The measurements for each TV screen usually determined the relative TV screen viewing area. Obviously, this doesn’t reflect whether your TV will look in a given space or not, mainly because the TV dimensions don’t include the bezel, stand, and frame.

80 Inch TV Dimensions Height and Width

Like most people, I always mixed up the TV’s screen size with the TV’s actual size. Just because a display is 80 inches doesn’t mean it will occupy an 80-inch space on the TV stand or wall.

To determine the actual dimensions, you will have to consider the TV’s width and height and even include its bezel and frame. Usually, these features add at least half to three inches to the overall width and height. Of course, if you decide to use a stand, it adds more inches to this measurement.

What Is the Actual Height and Width of an 80-Inch TV?

As mentioned, the width of an 80-inch TV is 69.6 inches, while the height is 39.1-inches. When buying a television stand, keep these measurements in mind to know which stand is best for your screen.

Technically, an 80-inch TV is pretty large, and it can easily overwhelm any room. To prevent this, it’s best to mount the TV than put it on a TV stand. Using a TV stand may even make the TV look weirdly large for a room.

It easily blends in and fits into the room’s elements when mounted.

Where Should I Put My TV in My Living Room?

Ideally, you should put your 80 Inch TV between 3 meters to 6 meters away. However, anywhere between 3 meters and 8 meters should work fine

How do you find a TVs Viewing Area?

To find the total viewing area of any TV, multiply the TV’s height and width. Since we are discussing the 90-inch dimension, let’s use an 80-ich TV as an example. To find its total viewing area, you should multiply 3.91 by 69.9, giving you a viewing area of 2733.09 inches.

How to Find the Best TV Angle

Ideally, placing the TV right in front of your eyes gives the best picture quality, and it ensures you don’t strain while watching. Always aim for 15 degrees up or down for the optimal viewing angle and ensure your eyes are not moving more than 40 degrees to the left or right.

This angle keeps you comfortable, and you can easily binge-watch your favorite shows without worrying about your eyes or straining your neck. How about lighting? Does it affect your watching experience?

80 Inch TV Dimensions - viewing distance

Lighting

Never place your TV directly behind any significant light source. Brightness from the lights and screen will strain your eyes. Unfortunately, it’s also distracting, so you won’t have a great viewing experience.

Balance

Ever tried watching TV with your neck slightly slanted? Or even a video on your phone? It’s pretty uncomfortable, right?

This usually happens when you don’t balance your TV. Thus, your picture is uneven. Whether you will use a stand or mount your TV, make sure it’s balanced side to side to avoid discomfort.

How Far Back Should You Sit From an 80-Inch TV?

Viewing Distance

Usually, TVs come with an optimal viewing distance and angle. But, you achieve the best viewing experience when your screen takes around 40 degrees of your field of view. To find this, take your screen size and multiply it by 1.5, which gives the minimum viewing distance. If you multiply it by 3, you get the maximum viewing distance.

So, when considering dimensions for an 80-inch TV, the minimum and maximum sitting distance are 120 inches (3 meters) and 240 inches (6 meters) away from the display. This means you need to sit 10 and 20 feet from your screen.

Viewing Angle

The viewing angle refers to the maximum angle that allows you to view the screen better. Different TVs have different visual perspectives due to pixel brightness, current stream from screen components, and overall engineering.

The image quality is poorer at certain viewing angles, especially if you view from the side. Therefore, always site directly opposite the TV for the best viewing angle.

When to Consider Buying an 80+ Inch TV

You can consider getting an 80 in TV set if:

1. You Have a Large Living Room or Space

I didn’t buy the 80-inch TV I wanted because I didn’t have enough space. However, if your living room is large enough or you want a home theatre, go for the larger 80-inch. I went with a 65-inch after considering my space.

Does this mean people with small spaces can’t get a large TV? Not at all.

If you absolutely must have an 80-in TV, yet your space is still small, mount your TV and do away with a stand. It will look proportional, and it won’t overwhelm your living room as much or make it look weird.

2. It’s to Be Used by a Large Number of Viewers

If you have a huge family and want everyone to enjoy the movies without size restrictions, go for an 80″ TV. It’s also great if you like entertaining.

3. Gaming and Movie Purposes

I’m a casual modest TV viewer, so I opted for a smaller screen size once I learned the space wouldn’t be enough for an 80-inch TV. However, a large TV is your best option if you are fond of the internet, love watching high-definition films, or if you are a gamer.

I learned a few things while shopping for a large TV. First, buying a large TV isn’t always the best option, especially in limited space. It will be wildly inappropriate and make your TV room look weird. Second, since most TVs have high resolution, sitting closer will give you a more immersive feel, especially if you want to achieve a cinematic feel.
